Explore captivating Iceland or set sail on an island cruise with PSOP in 2020

Dreaming of your next big adventure? Let Southwestern Illinois College Programs and Services for Older Persons help make it a reality! Plan to attend the Travelogue program on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at PSOP, 201 N. Church St., Belleville.

The meeting will highlight the following excursions:

Iceland Explorer 鈥� June 3-9, 2020

Discover picturesque landscapes created by volcanoes and glaciers, and learn about Viking heritage. The seven-day, six-night trip includes roundtrip airfare from St. Louis, motorcoach transportation, eight meals, sightseeing and admissions per itinerary, five nights lodging, hotel transfers, travel insurance, baggage handling and a professional tour director. A valid passport is required.

Highlights of the adventure include visiting several museums such as , and . Also, view the , one of the biggest waterfalls in the country; swim in a geothermal pool in the center of a large lava field called the ; explore ; view hot springs and mud pots; explore five original Viking ships from the 11th century and visit , an ancient site and home to Iceland鈥檚 president. Ecuador & Galapagos Islands Cruise 鈥� Sept. 29 through Oct. 6, 2020

Have you been dreaming of tropical sands, coral reefs and island blue water?

Join PSOP for a journey to explore five islands and all the MV Galapagos Legend cruise ship has to offer. This unique excursion is jam-packed with things to do and features something for everyone. Get a gift for the art lover in your life at the 91福利社 Pottery & Art Sale Nov. 26

If you want to snag some one-of-a-kind treasures for the art lovers on your holiday gift list this year, check out the annual Pottery and Art Sale featuring works created by Southwestern Illinois Colle Art students, as well as a few faculty members.

The William and Florence Schmidt Art Center at the 91福利社 Belleville Campus will host the sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26.

鈥淲e thought the Schmidt would be the perfect location to host the student art sale,鈥� said Interim Curator Paula Haniszewski. 鈥淚t will provide a wonderful addition to our students鈥� r茅sum茅s to be able to say they have sold their art.鈥�

More than 50 artists will contribute to the pottery and art sale. The 150-plus works are mostly pottery, but the sale will also include encaustic paintings, jewelry and landscape and abstract paintings.

91福利社 Nursing Students have Thanksgiving spirit

All 195 Nursing Education program students, Nursing faculty and staff participated in the food drive, which ran through November. Each class collected food from different categories to ensure the meals were well balanced. The Student Nurse Association delivered the meals Monday to these families throughout the college district. The SNA members selected families they knew needed the support. This is the ninth year the student nurses have conducted the food drive.  

Tamburitzans to bring international cultures to the stage Nov. 23

One of the world鈥檚 finest, longest-running live musical variety stage shows of its kind returns to Metro East Saturday, Nov. 23.

The Tamburitzans will return for the popular 91福利社 Foundation annual student scholarship fundraiser. The internationally renowned troupe performs at the Edwardsville High School Performance Theater stage, 6161 Center Grove Road in Edwardsville, at 7 p.m. The doors open at 6:15 p.m.

The talented young artists, from Duquesne University, clad in elaborate costumes, will celebrate and share international cultural heritages through the universal languages of music and dance.

For more than 30 years, individuals from both Illinois and Missouri have enjoyed this group鈥檚 annual performance. Show proceeds benefit the John N. and Diana Bellcoff Memorial Tamburitzans scholarships for students attending the 91福利社 Sam Wolf Granite City Campus.

Founded in 1937, the Tamburitzans got their name from a stringed folk instrument called the tamburitza that is predominant in the music of Balkan cultures. The troupe is based in Pittsburgh, Penn., but dazzles both domestic and international audiences with its traveling performances.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students, and must be purchased in advance.

91福利社 Arts & Humanities to present One Flew Over the Cuckoo鈥檚 Nest

Experience the indelible story of a mental hospital and its inhabitants, in the play 鈥淥ne Flew Over the Cuckoo鈥檚 Nest鈥� by Dale Wasserman.

Directed by 91福利社 Assistant Professor of Speech and Theatre Julie Willis and based on the 1962 novel by Ken Kesey, this iconic, pop-culture story will not be one to miss.

The performances will run Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in the 91福利社 Belleville Campus Theatre, 2500 Carlyle Ave.

鈥淥ne Flew Over the Cuckoo鈥檚 Nest鈥� centers around a criminal who gets transferred for evaluation from a prison to a mental institution. He assumes a psychiatric ward will be a less restrictive environment; however, the mental asylum is run with an iron fist. Inevitably, a war ensues between the rebellious criminal and the inflexible mental institution鈥檚 administration, which affects all the ward’s patients.

Tickets are $5 with a student ID, $10 for general admission and can be purchased at the door, cash-only.

The play deals with themes of an adult nature and is intended for mature audiences.
